FT: A Game Decided by a Whistle

A tough 2-1 defeat at Craik Park today, but the scoreline tells only half the story.

The Hawks dominated the opening 45, playing the league leaders off the park. It took a world-class strike to beat Tasha and put us behind, but our heads never dropped. Ellie bagged her first goal for the club almost immediately to level things up, and from there, we looked the better side.

The second half was a battle. Morpeth played their part, but the game was stolen in the final minute. After surviving two genuine penalty shouts earlier in the half, the referee seemingly decided he couldn’t leave without giving the home side something. A soft-as-silk 89th-minute penalty was awarded for a player throwing themselves to the turf while moving away from goal.

A disgusting way to end a high-quality game of football. This match deserved a winner, but it didn’t deserve to be decided on the whim of an official. We reset, we lace up, and we go again. Same place same time next week!
